| Rudell's
are highly esteemed for sourcing some of the finest pearls in
the world. When buying pearls you need to consider the following
:-
COLOUR
The main colours are white, pink, cream and black. Fine cultured
pearls will also have an overtone of blue, rose or green around
the outside of the pearl. The most popular cultured pearls are
pinkish/silver and pinkish/white in colour.
LUSTRE
The sharper the reflection of light on the cultured pearl, the
higher degree of luster. All cultured pearls have imperfections.
A quality cultured pearl should be free of large pits or blemishes.
SHAPE
The rarest pearls are the perfectly round in shape. However
only about 1% of cultured pearls are perfect spheres.
SIZE
A foreign object, such as a grain of sand is trapped in a mussel
or oyster. It is then coated with layers of a smooth crystalline
substance known as nacre, which grows layer by layer. The thickness
of a pearl can only be verified by an expert.
